Gerben Budding is first organist of the Grote Kerk Gorinchem, where he plays the monumental Bätz-Witte organ. He is also one of the organists who play the vespers on Sunday evening in the Domchurch in Utrecht. He regularly plays solo organ concerts both in the Netherlands and abroad. Gerben is an active continuo-player and accompanist. He is the harpsichord player of the Ensemble Rood Hout. Gerben conducts the oratory choirs of Zwijndrecht, Putten and Gouda and the community choir of the Grote Kerk Gorinchem.
He studied organ, church music and improvisation at the Conservatory of Utrecht with Reitze Smits and choir direction with Rob Vermeulen. He studied piano with Henk Ekkel and Léon Bak. Siebe Henstra gave him harpsichord lessons.. In 2009 he graduated with distinction for his Bachelo’s degree; in 2011 his Masters’, again with distinction. He followed private organ lessons with Louis Robillard and masterclasses improvisation with the famous improvisor Thierry Escaich as well as with Professor Rudolf Lutz. Three times he did a course orchestral direction at the Kurt Thomas Cursus. Gerben teaches music to both beginners and advanced players. He is also active as a composer of liturgical music.
